TE-1400 PC Board High Access Fixture The TE-1400 bed of nails style test fixture is designed to allow good circuit board component access. The fixture provides easy access by pressing down with the lower surface of the top cover instead of using press down pins. This puts the circuit board under test only 1/4" below the top surface. This makes it extremely easy for the test technician to access components, adjust potentiometers or make troubleshooting measurements. Note: this is a customized tester shown for reference only. Inside View This view with the bottom panel removed shows the easy accessibility provided in our fixture designs. In this example of a functional tester, Signal and data pins are wire wrapped to the appropriate rear panel connectors where they are cabled out to an insrument board. Higher speed signals, and noise sensitive signals are wired with twisted pairs or coaxial cable. All wiring is neatly bundled for easy troubleshooting and modification.	Click on image for large view

Easy Access to Circuit Boards Under Test

In this example, three tooling pins precisely hold the circuit board under test in place as the top cover presses the circuit board down making contact to the spring loaded pins underneath. The circuit boards are pressed down by the bottom surface of the top cover as shown. There is about a 0.050" overlap of the top cover over the edge of the circuit board. Reliefs are machined out in cases where components are closer than 0.050" or extend over the edge. In this example, one relief is plainly visible next to a crystal which extends near the edge of the board.

In this example the easy access is used simply to put the LED status indicators in plain view for the test technician. In some cases it may be necessary to make high impedance measurements to a high frequency oscillator circuit while adjusting a frequency control potentiometer. This easy access provides a low cost solution to the problem. The easy access allows the test technician to quickly clip a high impedance frequency counter probe directly to the test point, and make the adjustment. In cases where standard spring pins would overload the sensitive oscillator circuit This method eliminates the need for special test pins with expensive pre-amplifier circuits attached to the back side. Other applications include access to connectors, micro switches, and other components. This production test fixture also doubles as a convenient holding fixture for the troubleshooting bench.
